Best (Homemade) Ear Cleaning Solution (aka Blue Power Ear Treatment)!

Ingredients:

16 oz Isopropyl Alcohol (70%)

4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder

16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution (1%)

How to Mix:

Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well.  You will need to shake solution every time you use it to disperse the Boric Acid Powder. To use, purchase the "Clairol" type plastic bottle to dispense solution to affected ears. (we use the bottle from the ear cleaning solution that we used before we received this great recipe!).

Treatment: Evaluate the condition of ears before treating and if very inflamed and sore do not attempt to pull hair or clean out the ear at all but just put the solution into the ears. Wait until the inflammation has subsided, which will be about 2 days, before wiping or plucking the ears. Shake the bottle well each time before using.  Flood the ear with this solution (gently squirt bottle), massage gently to the count of 60, wipe the outside area of the ear canal/ear with a tissue or cotton ball. Then flood again on the first treatment, wipe with a tissue (or cotton ball) and leave alone without massage.  The dog will shake the excess out which can be wiped up with a tissue.  The Gentian Violet does stain fabric so do not do this on carpet floor and best if done outside.

Schedule of Treatment: Treat 2x/day for the first week to two weeks, depending on the severity of the ears.  Treat 1x/day for the next 1-2 weeks.  Treat 1x/month as a maintenance. If your dog swims a lot, or spends a lot of time outside, you may need to use more often.  It is a good idea to use the ear cleaner after your dog has been exposed to water, swimming, bath, etc.

Special Thanks: We have used many veterinary recommended solutions and have tried many on the market and there is not a close second to the effectiveness of the Blue Power Ear Treatment! Credit goes to Molly LaFleche for sharing this formula!
